Moving from Quebec to BC
I would like to know if you can provide me with reference to whom i can contact regarding that i would like to move from Montreal QC to Vancouver BC.
Unfortunately, every province has there own system regarding disability or income assistance, therefore, files cannot be transferred from one province to another. How it works in BC is that once you are here you will go to the nearest Ministry of Housing and Social Development office (you can locate them by calling 1-866-866-0800) or once you arrive you can contact me at BCPWA for the office nearest to where you will be staying. You will then be required to go to the Ministry office where you will have to ask for an “Application for Income Assistance, Part 1” form. Once you fill out that form, someone called an Employment and Assistance Worker will give you a “pre-application number”. They will also give you a package of information. It will tell you what you must do before you can apply for welfare at something called an intake interview. One of the requirements is to complete a three-week work search but in your condition you will be able to omit this section if you bring a valid note from your doctor stating due to your condition and health that you have a serious illness and have been in the hospital that prevents you from doing a work search. Once you have completed everything that is required, if you get approved for Income Assistance you can then ask the Ministry office for a Persons with Disabilities application form. You have to be approved for Income Assistance before you can fill out an application for Persons with Disabilities benefits. As for your medical file, once you have found a doctor in BC you can have them transfer all your medical files over from Montreal.
