Threats to Personal Privacy
A research document prepared by the Right to Privacy Campaign reveals the scope of personal information supplied to private companies for the purposes of managing healthcare records. In addition to general medical information, prescription medications, sources of income, credit history, employment background, and records of incarceration are recorded.

A background check also exposed a less than exemplary reputation for MAXIMUS, the US owned company currently contracted by the provincial government to manage British Columbians' health care records. Evidently, mismanagement of data, computer system failures, and over-billing to customers were just some of the very costly problems identified.
