VOLUNTEER POSITIONS (TEAMS)
Day of Event
Health and Safety:
This team acts as information officials and should be comfortable in approaching, dealing with first aid situations when they arise and communicating with people. They are responsible for the general safety and security of the WALK site and be especially mindful of three areas in particular: the merchandising tent, the registration tent and the pancake breakfast tent. Volunteers with First Aid Certificate or health and safety experience would be a great asset to this team.
Donation Collectors:
Volunteers will be stationed throughout the site and along the route to collect donations from WALKers and the general public. The volunteers may also be asked to collect donations for red carnations and red ribbon balloons. Experience dealing with people and experience in sales will be help in this position.
Food Tent:
The food team collects donations and distributes food to walkers and volunteers. Food handling experience preferred for this team - having "Food Safe" certification is even better.
Information Tent:
The Information Tent has a number of people doing many different jobs which include: volunteer check in, lunch distribution, lost and found, onsite fundraising, onsite cleanup and water distribution.
Logistics Team:
This team is divided into three sub groups: Set up: This is special crew of people that turn an area of grass in Stanley Park into the main WALK site. This crew gets everything set up for Walk day! Lifting and carrying things like tables, fences, and tents are included. There are two shifts. Tear Down: This crew cleans up the entire WALK site and packs it up into trucks and vans. Lifting and carrying things like tables, fences and tents are included. The more people on this team, the lighter the work. Last years site was cleaned up by 5pm. Both of these teams require heavy lifting so please only volunteer if you feel you are able to perform these tasks safely. Runners: required to help out with logistics on walk day: parking/traffic, seat distribution and tasks as required
Route Team:
The route team will monitor the route and the water stations. A first aid volunteer (with proper certification) and a water attendant are also at each water station. Experience and interest in customer service and information giving a plus!
Kids Activities:
Roaming volunteers needed to provide children on site with entertainment. Volunteers will be asked to assist with color/drawing, face painting, and story telling.
Merchandising:
The merchandising team sells t-shirts and other AIDS WALK for LIFE products.
Registration Tent:
The registration team is the largest team of the event. Specific skills and experience in financial management, handling money, and customer service are required.
