The BCPWA Logo
About the Logo
Looking back on the history of the BC Persons With AIDS Society, it is clear that the society since its inception has played a unique role of bridging and connecting people living with HIV across BC. The arch was chosen for several reasons. It symbolizes bridging from old to new, connecting diverse communities and responding positively
to the many new challenges that confront us in our work. There is a slight reminiscence of the AIDS ribbon. However, the idea was to untie it, let it open up and free it, and so symbolically to let the AIDS community grow.
The colour purple was chosen because it combines the stability of blue, echoing the old logo of BCPWA Society and the energy of red, found in the AIDS ribbon. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity and magic; in eastern colour theory, purple is believed to be the colour of visionaries who are out to change the world. Purple is known to be a blend of moderation and confidence.
